Jesse |
Air Force |
Served 1956-1976 Jesse Miller, who served in Viet Nam and died in 2018 from aftereffects of exposure to Agent Orange. Jesse was a flight engineer in these big C-123 cargo planes. When Jesse was in Vietnam, he flew as a flight engineer on big slow Air Force C-123 cargo planes. They flew low and slow over the jungle, and they definitely did get shot at. His plane was hit badly and had to crash-land once, but fortunately, the crew all survived.
One of the planes that Jesse actually flew was nicknamed "Patches". The reason it is called "Patches", is that it had more patched bullet holes than any other airplane in Vietnam, 567 at last count. And I expect that it got some of those bullet holes while Jesse was flying in it. His plane went down and all that was on the plane. All crew members received a Distinguished Flying Cross.
